What to Expect from a Discovery Call

A discovery call is a fancy way of saying let’s meet in real time and say hello! It is a free 30-45 minute semi-structured call in which we get to figure out what it might look and feel like to work together.

Here is how the call usually goes:

Introductions

I love to know where in the world you are, what the nature of your business or project is, and where you are at in your journey. Are you just starting out, refining your services, pivoting to something entirely new, preparing for a new season of growth?

Knowing a bit about who you are and the ‘why’ behind what you do helps provide important context for the project.

What you’ve already prepared

This is where I find out about where you are at in the process of preparing for your website build and I’ll ask questions like:

  • Do you have a logo and/or brand elements?

  • Have you prepared your website copy (text)?

  • Are you clear on what you’re offering?

  • Do you have custom photography, stock photos, a professional headshot?

Practical things

  • Budget range: I’ll ask whether you have a budget range in mind so I can make sure the scope of the project matches what is possible.

  • Ideal timeline: Do you have a hard deadline in mind (a brick and mortar shop launch, an important anniversary celebration, an event lined up)? Or do you have an preferred date range?

  • Capacity and availability: Are you in a very busy season? Do you have time to gather content, review drafts, and provice feedback?

Technical basics

  • Domain: Do you have a domain in mind, have you purchased one?

  • Squarespace trial or subscription: Do they already have a paid Squarespace subscription?

  • Tech familiarity: Have you used Squarespace before? How comfortable are you with the thought of using a web platforms?

Two bonus questions

  • Why now?

  • What would a successful website help you do?

There’s no pressure and no obligation. If it feels aligned, I’ll outline some next steps. If it’s not the right fit or the right time, we usually both know!

If you’re ready to chat about taking your next step, get in touch.
