Studio Essentials
These are the apps, extensions and everyday bits I reach for when I'm building websites, working with clients and keeping my small studio running smoothly. Some are free, some are paid, and all of them have earned their place by saving me time, sparking ideas or making the work feel a little lighter. If you run a creative business too, I hope you find a new favourite here.
-

Adobe Color
My go-to for building colour palettes. I use it to explore combinations, check contrast and pull colours from images when I'm shaping a brand or website look.
-

Adobe Lightroom
Where I edit and organise photos for client sites and my own content. A few quick adjustments here make images feel polished and consistent across a whole website.
-

Amazing Marvin
The productivity app that keeps my days on track. It's flexible enough to shape around how I actually work, which helps me stay focused and procrastinate less.
-

Calendly
Takes the back-and-forth out of booking calls. Clients choose a time that suits them, and it lands straight in my calendar with all the details I need.
-

Canva (Pro)
My quick-design sidekick for social graphics, presentations and client handouts. It's also a tool I often recommend to clients so they can create on-brand content themselves.
-

Claude
My AI thinking partner for writing, research and problem-solving. I use it to brainstorm, draft copy, untangle code questions and get unstuck when I'm staring at a blank page.
-

Convert Case
A small browser extension that saves me a surprising amount of time. It switches text between upper, lower, title and sentence case in a click, which is perfect for tidying up client copy.
-

Fonts Ninja
Spot a font you love on a website? This extension tells you what it is instantly. I use it for inspiration and for identifying fonts when clients share sites they like.
-

Ghost Plugins
My favourite resource for extending what Squarespace can do. Their plugins add features and design touches that aren't built in, without having to write custom code from scratch.
-

Google Workspace
The backbone of my business admin. Email, calendar, documents and shared folders all live here, which keeps client projects organised and easy to collaborate on.
-

Pexels
A go-to source for free, high-quality stock photos and videos. It's great for filling gaps on a website when a client doesn't yet have their own photography.
-

Leuchtturm1917 A5 Notebook
Not everything happens on a screen. This is where I sketch layouts, jot down ideas and take call notes, and the numbered pages and contents list keep it all findable.
-

Squarespace
The platform I build almost all my client websites on. It's beautiful, reliable and easy for clients to manage themselves. Get in touch for 20% off your first year's subscription.
-

Tella
My screen recorder of choice. I use it extensively for site tutorials, website audits, explainer videos and asynchronous website feedback.
-

The Humane Space
My antidote to mindless scrolling. It swaps the social media habit for small daily moments of curiosity and learning, which feels like a much better use of those in-between minutes.
-

Tiny PNG
Every image goes through this before it goes on a website. It shrinks file sizes without any visible loss in quality, so pages load faster and look just as sharp.
-

Unsplash
Another favourite for free, beautiful photography. The images feel more artistic and less "stock" than most, which makes them ideal for moody headers and backgrounds.
-

Wave
Keeps my invoicing and bookkeeping simple. It's built for small businesses and freelancers, so I can send professional invoices and keep an eye on my finances without the stress.
